Theater Rooms Are Still in Style

From large rooms with oversized electric reclining chairs to finished basements with a large screen television, there are many kinds of theater room styles to please even the pickiest of homeowners.  And guess what?  Theater rooms are still big business.  Most new homes have some version of theatre room in them especially since 2020 was the year of staying indoors.  As you can imagine, I get the opportunity to help my clients design some of these rooms when they’re building a new home or finishing their basements.  I’d like to give a shout out to Echo Systems for their great work installing these babies for some of the homeowners I’ve worked with. https://www.echosystemsmidwest.com/residential/private-theater/. Let’s explore a few of the different designs for in home theatres.

Over the Top

When I think theater rooms, I think about my finished basement with a nice television in it but when you take that idea to the next level you get some over the top theater rooms where you could host a professional screening.  I’m talking high-definition projectors and large movie screens as well as outrageous sounds systems.  Everything is high tech and all about a real movie watching experience only at home.  Some of us like to put in dimmable lighting and this room would be only for movie watching.  Nothing else to take away from that experience.  Now a days, you can get some excellent theater seating that is both fashionable and functional with recliners and cups holder but none of the old school looking puffiness.

Man-Cave Style

This particular theater likely has some masculine and very manly theater chairs in it.  The requirement is built in cup holders, a place to hold the remote and recliners, recliners, recliners.  Best if they’re electric as well.  And if you really want to splurge, they can be massaging.  This is the room your spouse will use to host sporting event watch parties, so it definitely has a full bar and some entertainment spaces.  Most likely you’ll want a table for eating at or maybe even a poker table in there.  Must haves are sports memorabilia to hang on the wall.  This space is not a feminine space at all.  It’s all sports all the time with masculine colors to go with the theme.  And if your spouse is not into sports, the man cave can have whatever theme he or she wants.  But it’s all about the word cave.  A space especially designed to help you get away from the chaos and enjoy whatever it is you enjoy.

Family Friendly and Cozy

This movie watching space is more likely to have some comfortable sectional furniture in it then theater seating lined up in rows.  It’s meant for you and the kids to pile in and watch a good Disney flick.  More than likely there’s a cool vintage popcorn machine in the corner and lots of pillows to snuggle with.  Rearrangeable furniture helps you and the family to have whatever layout that particular night calls for.  Whether it’s a build a cave night or pretend camping with movies, your room will have flexibility and be comfortable enough for anyone whatever they’re preference.  Don’t think you can’t have style, however.  There are plenty of different styles of sofa and fabric to make it comfy as well as aesthetically pleasing.  Loaded up with color and you’re all set to have a movie night with the family or your friends.
