Glamping Around

Today I’m featuring one of my favorite places to go glamping, Kimberly Creek Retreat in Ashland, NE.  This fun place is close to town and it’s a fun as heck.  What is glamping? Glamping is glamorous camping where the serenity of nature meets modern luxury.  Like staying in a luxury hotel but in the woods.  When I was younger, I loved camping and I would sleep like a baby in a mat inside a tent but now that I’m, of a certain vintage I prefer a nice soft mattress in a room with a lock on the door.  But my young heart still wants to camp so instead I glamp.  Lots of women love this style of camping and if you’re a smart spouse, you’ll consider this fun spot for a romantic weekend get a way.  Perhaps for a celebration like your anniversary or a special birthday.

Pick Your Style

Now if you don’t want to camp but you want to be in the woods you could rent a cabin.  How is this different.  Well silly…it’s the glamorous part that’s the trick.  At Kimberly Creek there are lots of different styles of lodging to choose from. They have the Loft which looks like a tiny home and I assume has a loft (it’s under construction and will be completed in September) and they have the Sundowner which looks like a cute little city apartment inside.  There’s the King Dome which looks like a fancy dome shaped Yurt and the Queen Dome which is, of course, a larger dome Yurt looking structure.  There’s also the Ranch.  It looks like a cool ranch style home with a front porch and the Sanctuary also looks like a tiny home.  Ridiculously cute.  Lastly, there’s the Homestead and the Nook and the Cranny which kind of speak for themselves.  All cute little themed places that you can rent.

Things to Do When Glamping

It’s not all fishing and wildlife which is indeed available there but there are other things to do in the area. Mahoney State park is an excellent place to see wildlife and go hiking.  KCR Wildlife has birdfeeders for you bird watcher and viewing areas for watching other wildlife.  The SAC Museum is close by where you can see over 300,000 square feet of exhibits, education and events related to aerospace.  My favorite thing to do in this are is the Wildlife Safari Park.  Drive through and see animals in their nature habitats.  Don’t forget to stop and check out the Bison but don’t forget you can not pet them.  And if you’re a steak eater there’s Round the Bend Steakhouse or want to catch a couple rounds of gold then there’s Quarry Oaks Golf course.

Locally Owned and Family Operated

Kimberly Creek Retreat was founded and developed by Mike Kennedy and Chris Petersen.  Both families are intimately involved in the construction and operation.  When you check in, you will likely meet Chris or Mike.  I love that it’s a family run place.  That typically means you get the best service.  And although I was a bit disappointed to find out that the best glamping spot in town was not founded by a couple of cool women, that really doesn’t change the fact that its cool.  I highly recommend checking this place out and all the surrounding area.  It’s a great little town.
